Are you suffering from Cybersex dependency?
I participated to an interesting formation about cybersex dependency given by Josée Leboeuf and François Blanchette, two sexologists, during a session of continuing formation offered by l'Association des Sexologues du Québec. They presented us with a french version of a questionnaire on cybersex dependency that was originally found on an english web site :
This questionnaire has been created in order to help you evaluate a possible dependency on cybersex and I think it is an excellent one. So I bring it back to you, encouraging you to visit its original web site if you think you may be addicted to cybersex. I would also encourage you to read some more (the original web site offers books and brochures) and eventually look for therapy if this addiction is becoming severe enough to bring difficulties at work, within your relationship or with friends and family.
Answer by "yes" or "no" to each of these questions:
1. Do you routinely spend significant amounts of time in chat rooms and private messaging with the sole purpose of finding cybersex?
2. Do you feel preoccupied with using the Internet to find on-line sexual partners?
3. Do you frequently use anonymous communication to engage in sexual fantasies not typically carried out in real-life?4. Do you anticipate your next on-line session with the expectation that you will find sexual arousal or gratification?
5. Do you find that you frequently move from cybersex to phone sex (or even real-life meetings)?
6. Do you hide your on-line interactions from your significant other?
7. Do you feel guilt or shame from your on-line use?
8. Did you accidentally become aroused by cybersex at first, and now find that you actively seek it out when you log on-line?
9. Do you masturbate while on-line while engaged in erotic chat?
10. Do you provide less investment with your real-life sexual partner only to prefer cybersex as a primary form of sexual gratification?
If you answered "yes" to one or many of the these questions, you may be have developed a dependency on cybersex. Obviously, the likelyhood that your are actually dependent on cybersex increases as the number of ''Yes'' answers increases. However, before you reach the conclusion that you are, indeed, addicted to cybersex, please read my article on sexual compulsion. It will further help you evaluate this possibility as it explains what is sexual addiction and what are its consequences on a person's life.
